JUDY RUSSELL PRESENTS A CHRISTMAS CAROL

A Holiday Family Tradition! Judy Russell Presents: Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” adapted by Anna Russell.

Last seen in Prince George in 2012 and 2014, A Christmas Carol tells the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, a greedy businessman who thinks only of making money. For him, Christmas is, in his own words, a humbug. It has been seven years since his friend and partner, Jacob Marley, died and on Christmas Eve. Marley's ghost tells him he is to be visited during the night by three spirits: The Ghost of Christmas Past, The Ghost of Christmas Present and The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come. When Scrooge awakens on Christmas morning he is a new man, intent on doing good and celebrating the season with all of those around him.

Filled with Christmas music, dance and entertainment for the whole family, this Holiday Classic is not to be missed!

DOC WALKER

With over two decades of road stories, Canadian country legends Doc Walker return with the announcement of their cross-Canada tour – Acoustic Songs & Stories from the Heartland, set for early 2019. To celebrate the announcement, the duo will be releasing the official music video for their latest single ‘Get Back on My Horse’ with an exclusive first look on The Boot, October 17. Released on the 2017 album Weathervane, ‘Get Back on My Horse’ brings fans a classic Doc Walker sound, combining smooth harmonies and a sentimental story. Directed by Mike Latschislaw, the emotional music video shows a slideshow of fellow Canadians demonstrating their resilience, with some paying homage to loved ones they’ve lost along the way. Featured in the video is an RCMP officer holding a photo of a colleague lost on duty, a daughter honouring her father, and Doc Walker’s own Chris Thorsteinson with a group of friends paying homage to one they lost. "Get Back on My Horse may go down as my favourite Doc Walker song, ever,” says Dave Wasyliw. “The lyrics make me cry, but the song still has this 'hopeful/liberating’ feeling to it. The recording is lovely, and Chris’ voice has never sounded better!” With over 20 Top 10 singles, Doc Walker is one of the most recognized Canadian country acts of this generation. The group has received multiple Canadian Country Music Awards, including Fans' Choice, Group or Duo of the Year, Video of the Year, Single of the Year, and Country Music Program or Special of the Year. In addition, Doc Walker has been nominated for several JUNO Awards for Country Album of the Year, including a win in 2009 for the album Beautiful Life. With more dates to be added, the Acoustic Songs & Stories from the Heartland tour will kick off in Doc Walker’s hometown of Winnipeg, MB and see them traveling throughout Ontario before heading west to British Columbia and Alberta. Reminiscent of the campfires and kitchen parties that Chris and Dave have played over the years, his tour will not be the typical ‘songs and stories’ performance – the banter is loose, unscripted, and always hilarious! For more information on upcoming tour dates and to purchase tickets, please visit: www.docwalker.ca.

PG HOSPICE BUCKET LIST GALA

The wildly successful charity fundraiser The Bucket List Gala is set to return with Netflix star and best selling author Leon Logothetis from “The Kindness Diaries” as it’s keynote speaker this September. The ambitious event was developed by the Prince George Hospice Society last year with the help of UNLTD Media and Events and saw great success in it’s first year raising over $30,000. Beyond the financial win for the charity, the gala also kickstarted an initiative to activate the community to live life with purpose by making bucket lists of their own.

This September 22 at the Prince George Civic Centre, the Prince George Hospice Society & UNLTD will be joined by returning sponsors Wood Wheaton Supercentre, Accent Dental and Pacific Western Brewing with the aim of expanding the success of the event. This year’s choice of Leon Logothetis with his message of choosing your own life and spreading kindness was a natural next step to build on the energy of the event’s inaugural year which featured keynote speaker Ben Nemtin of MTV’s The Buried Life.

The event and it’s corresponding initiative were chronicled on the Facebook group Bucket List PG. Weekly prize giveaways of bucket list fulfillments were also announced on this group with the hashtag #bucketlistpg. Presenting sponsor Wood Wheaton Supercentre have also launched a “Random Acts of Kindness” program through the dealership to coincide with this year’s gala and spread the culture of goodwill in the spirit of “The Kindness Diaries”.

Each ticket to the gala includes weekly chances to win fulfillments of varying degrees Each ticket purchases will be accompanied by a form to allow attendees to share the bucket list goals they hope to win. Bucket List goals are broken down into three separate scales listed below. A – The Highest Level (The Loftiest of Dreams). Last year’s winner chose a trip to St. Lucia B- The Middle Level (Difficult, but not out of reach). Some of last year’s winners received skydiving, white water rafting, and a helicopter ride around Prince George C – The Lowest Level (In reach, only requiring a little push). Some of last year’s winners received language lessons, fitness training, and decluttering service. Each ticket will require the purchaser to fill out their A, B, and C goals, which are collected by the Prince George Hospice Society. Once a week starting on June 29/2018 the Society will draw one ticket and fulfill a B- or C-list goal for that ticket holder. At the Gala event in September, the Society will draw an ‘A’ list winner and either fulfill that list item or provide $5000 in cash towards it’s fulfillment.

SCOTT COOK

SCOTT COOK

A roots balladeer with a rare personal warmth, Edmonton's Scott Cook has distilled the stories collected over a decade touring across Canada, the USA, Europe, Asia, and Australia into straight-talking, keenly observant verse. His fourth DIY release, One More Time Around, was nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award, and its opening track "Pass It Along" won the Folk and Acoustic category in the 2013 UK Songwriting Contest, with UK magazine Maverick Country naming him "one of Canada's most inspiring and imaginative storytellers".
In 2015 he assembled a seven-piece honky-tonk band for his fifth studio album, Scott Cook and the Long Weekends Go Long, and in 2017 he released his sixth studio album, Further Down the Line, with longtime collaborators The Second Chances: Bramwell Park on banjo, mandolin, and harmony vocals, and Melissa Walker on upright bass and harmonies. The album earned Cook his second Canadian Folk Music Award nomination (English Songwriter of the Year), and comes packaged in a 132-page book containing a look back, in words and pictures, on his last decade of near-incessant travel. Cook is one of the hardest-working troubadours on the road today, averaging over 150 shows and a dozen festivals every year since 2007. All the hard miles notwithstanding, he still believes that songs can change your life, and your life can change the world.

"Scott Cook has distilled his travels down into songs powered by a sharp eye for imagery, a healthy dose of humanity, and that unforgettable voice, that at the same time intones the rigors of the road and the most comfortable couch you have ever slept on." -David Francey, 3x Juno-winning Canadian songwriter

"As good a modern folkie as we have these days. A voice perfect for the genre. An understanding beyond the norm." -No Depression

"There's nothing flash about Canada's Cook. He sings his heart and soul, and in doing so lets light flood into your own... He has a good eye for imagery, a gentle human touch, a wry sense of humour, a whole lot of integrity, a warm, rugged voice and a bunch of memorable lines... Truly one of Woody Guthrie's children." -RnR Magazine

Five Alarm Funk

Five Alarm Funk will be performing June 21, 2018 at the Prince George Legion Branch 43.

Visit our tickets page for more information!

Some bands want to change the world. Five Alarm Funk’s goal is much simpler.
They want you to sweat.
That’s been the idea since the first time drummer Tayo Branston, guitarist Gabe
Boothroyd and the original Five Alarm bassist Neil Towers met at a Vancouver house
party in 2003. Since that night, the temperature in their leafy green hometown began to
rise. Other musicians started showing up to jam. The parties led to gigs locally, which
led a few years later to grinding bus tours across Canada and into the States. The
crowds grew. The grooves burned. A horn section jumped onboard to punch the beat
harder. Percussion cranked it up even more. EPs and albums followed, as studios and
gear melted down from the sheer intensity these guys unleashed.
