CIT & CINEMA CNC PRESENT HELLO DESTROYER

Central Interior Tickets & Cinema CNC proudly present......

HELLO DESTROYER ....FILMED IN PRINCE GEORGE! Director: Kevan Funk 2016 Cast: Sara Canning, Jared Abrahamson, Ian Tracey

2016 TIFF Rising Star Jared Abrahamson stars in this uncompromising first feature from Vancouver director Kevan Funk, about a young minor-league hockey player who discovers the unforgiving nature of his sporting life. Hello Destroyer raises deeply troubling questions about how we teach boys to become adults, particularly within the context of Canada’s national obsession.

A new recruit for the Prince George Warriors, Tyson Burr is an enforcer whose primary tasks are digging the puck out of corners and protecting more skilled team-mates. Tyson is painfully shy and inarticulate, the result of growing up with a dismissive and impatient father — and being raised in a world that places little value on emotional development.

The lone articulate character in Tyson’s world is his coach, Dale Milbury (Kurt Max Runte), who spews forth an endless string of asinine clichés, coercing evermore aggression from his players. Spurred on by Milbury, Tyson inadvertently injures an opposing player, and soon finds out that the “family” he has grown up in is a lot more self-serving than he thought.

Shot in tight close-ups that brilliantly mirror Tyson’s confused and constantly anxious head space, Hello Destroyer is driven by Abrahamson’s amazing performance and director Funk’s fearlessness. Few Canadian artists have had the courage to question our assumptions about our national game, and fewer still have mounted such a forceful cri- tique of an athletics system that forges young boys into weapons and then abandons them when they become inconvenient.

PIGS: PINK FLOYD TRIBUTE

PIGS, Canada’s Most Authentic Pink Floyd Tribute will be bringing their critically acclaimed show to the PG Playhouse in 2017. Their PIGS ON THE WING show celebrates the 40th anniversary of the release of Pink Floyd’s 1977 classic album Animals. One of the band’s heaviest and most political statements, the concept album has become a favourite for legions of fans, and Pigs will be performing the album in its entirety, in addition to material from across the band’s legendary repertoire. PIGS continues to surprise and delight audiences with authentic performances of Pink Floyd classics, including many songs which have rarely (if ever) been performed live. The lights, lasers, giant screen, and utterly authentic live sound come together to recreate the experience of seeing Pink Floyd live in the 1970s. PIGS’ claim to fame is their authenticity. PIGS recreate the Pink Floyd sound with authentic gear and accurate live renditions of the songs. Every last detail of the look, sound, and feel of Pink Floyd’s classic era is meticulously worked out and perfected and each band member assumes the role of their Floyd counterpart. Since their inception seven years ago, PIGS has been amazing audiences with their dynamic re-creation of one of the world’s favourite rock groups. With the passing of keyboardist Richard Wright in 2008, fans of Pink Floyd lost hope of ever again seeing their favourite band re-united. PIGS offer the next best thing: an authentic look back into the breathtaking past of one of the world’s most timeless bands. http://www.canadapinkfloyd.com

BALLET KELOWNA: 150 Moves – A Celebration of Canadian Dance Presented by Ballet Kelowna and Judy Russell Presents in Prince George February 21st

Ballet Kelowna celebrates Canada’s 150th Anniversary with fresh and exciting classical and contemporary dance created by the country’s top choreographers.

Repertoire will include:

Denouement Originally commissioned by Karen Kain, Artistic Director of The National Ballet of Canada, the pas-de-deux Denouement was created by Matjash Mrozewski to showcase the tremendous talent of NBoC dancers at the Eighth International Competition for the Erik Bruhn Prize. A work of stunning complexity, intricate formations manifest and disappear as the dancers rhythmically disentangle and unfold themselves from one another’s grasp.

Romeo and Juliet The Romeo and Juliet balcony scene Pas-de-deux is freshly interpreted by emerging choreographer Joshua Beamish and set to Prokofiev’s breathtaking score.

Studies of Cash In Studies of Cash, the Company pays tribute to country legend Johnny Cash. With a heart-rending mix of Cash recordings, Ballet Kelowna Artistic Director and CEO Simone Orlando’s soulful, stylistic work explores classical lyricism, folk-dance, and rhythm-n-blues.

Split House Geometric Former Artistic Director of Ballet BC, John Alleyne’s neo-classical quartet – Split House Geometric – is a vigorous, precision-perfect work. Poetic moments of pure contemporary ballet juxtaposed with sharp, staccato movements with bodies creating geometric shapes to brilliant effect.

Canadiana Suite The program will finish with a vibrant new work set to Oscar Peterson’s iconic Canadiana Suite. Co-created by award-winning choreographers Simone Orlando and Donald Sales, this energetic group piece pays tribute to the regions and cultures of Canada through and expressive blend of classical ballet and Jazz.

Comedy with Alex MacKenzie & Simon King at the Prince George Playhouse!

Tickets available at tickets.centralinteriortickets.com

Alex Mackenzie is a comic from Northern BC who is fairly new to the comedy world. He has only been performing for two years but has already travelled across the country to Montreal to spread laughter and his insight on relationships, current events and society.Simon King completely changes a room when he takes the stage. Aggressive, truly insightful and possessing a unique explosive delivery all his own he bombards the audience with intelligent and flat out hilarious material at break neck speed. This coupled with his ability to seamlessly insert characters, impressions and improvisation means he’s unlike anything else in the stand up comedy world.

Being the kind of comic that comes along maybe once in a generation gets you noticed. It wasn’t long before he was being invited to play some of the world’s most prestigious comedy competitions and festival. From his appearances at: the San Francisco International Comedy Competition, the Seattle International Comedy Competition, The Winnipeg Comedy Festival, The Edmonton Comedy Festival, The Moncton Comedy Festival, The Vancouver International Comedy Festival, The North West Comedy Fest, The Kuala Lumpur Comedy Fest, Virgin Music Festival and The Just For Laughs Festival to his breakout performances at the prestigious HBO U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen and the HBO, TBS Comedy Festival in Las Vegas: he’s made a huge impact wherever he’s been. A workhorse and veteran performer with more than a decade and a half in stand up under his belt Simon has played everything from theatres to comedy clubs to dive bars. With numerous national television appearances including Comedy Network, CBC, CTV, TBS, Comedy Central to name a few and regular radio play on both terrestrial and satellite radio it seems only a matter of time before this grass roots superstar becomes a household name.

His unmistakable style, commanding stage presence and lightning wit will win you over but the scope, meaning and sheer hilarity of his material will blow your mind. There is no question that Simon King is an absolute force of nature.

“Having seen Simon perform many times I have been incredibly impressed with is unique talent. From everything I have seen Simon is truly a gifted comedian.” – ROBIN WILLIAMS

“Wicked f***king funny!” – DOUG STANHOPE "Finally, Simon King entered the room and, almost as soon as he started speaking, the crowd was roaring with laughter. And the laughter never quieted. King is pure genius.... He never comes off as arrogant, but simply remains likable. And when he topped of his time with a message to the audience about the way people need to be living their lives, it was a poignant moment that proved he cares about what he does. He doesn’t take the stage for granted. He uses it to make us laugh and make us think. And that comparison to George Carlin is not to be taken lightly. King could very well become as influential to comedy as Carlin was…… It’s not very often a comedian comes along who can perform and write that well. Simon King is a rare talent." –THE COMEDY KILLERS WWW.THISISSIMONKING.COM

The Statistics

Live at the Prince George Playhouse!

The Statistics are an Alternative duo from Prince George, BC. Comprised of Erin and Darby Yule, the Statistics have already achieved considerable feats: working with Cone McCaslin (Sum 41); selling out hot spots such as The Media Club, Blackbird Cafe, The Cellar, and The Railway Club; playing Canadian Music Week, Crankworx Whistler, headlining Kispiox Music Festival with Cardboard Crowns, and headlining UBC Goosehunt Festival. Their latest release is ‘Haunts” a six-song EP produced by Paul Boechler and recorded at FaderMountain Studios in Vancouver, which showcases the jangly punk edge of their past, but easily slips in some Brit-pop threads; built with analogue warmth around it all. With a highly interactive live show, The Statistics often generate more energy on stage than bands twice their size. “We were told that we were going to become statistics of the music industry, so that’s what we decided to call ourselves.” says frontman Darby Yule. The band will be embarking on a US/Canadian fall tour in 2016 to support the release of their new single ‘Old Habits’. They will do what they do best: give the audience a reason to listen.
